Welcome

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol is a volunteer organization of non- commissioned individuals who represent the Sheriff’s Office in a respectful and professional manner. The group promotes health, happiness and social activities relative to horsemanship.

We are lead by full-time members of the Sheriff’s Office, who form our team of advisors. Our head advisor/supervisor is Sgt. Chris Edin. Mounted Patrol offers opportunities for families to serve the community together doing something they enjoy.

What Are We?

We provide the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office with assistance in crime scene protection, evidence collection, and support for sheriff's deputies, while using horses as the integral part of our volunteer activities. Mounted Patrol members assist the Sheriff’s Office and Thurston County Search and Rescue by helping with rescues locating injured and/or missing persons. We perform these functions, on horseback, covering areas that are not accessible by vehicles and we cover ground much faster then people on foot. Our missions usually take place in the outlying regions of our county. We are all certified in first aid and the use of our horses, offers us an opportunity to be true first responders.

We also assist the Sheriff’s Office with functions as needed to enhance the duties of full-time deputies. We perform security functions for events like the Thurston County Fair, the Cascade Mountain Pro-Rodeo and assist each year with the Sheriff Edwards’ Special Olympics Trail Ride.
